More about my experience
I qualified in 1991 as a Speech language Therapist and Audiologist from the University of Pretoria with a bachelors degree in Logopaedics (now known as Communication Pathology). I have been working in this field many years and I am still passionate about the profession and all the children I work with.
Initially I worked at a centre for young people with severe global developmental disorders. Later I joined a Neuro Rehab team working mostly with adults who had experienced traumatic brain injuries or strokes.
When my own children came along I began working part time in private practice with pre-schoolers and school aged children. After moving to New Zealand, I joined the Ministry of Education for a number of years. Since 2013, I’ve been in Private Practice. I like to keep up to date with new developments in the field by attending conferences and reading up constantly about different approaches to treatments that are evidence based.
A few years ago, I had the privilege of designing the content of an app for Speech therapists.
Currently I am developing resources for therapists to use with their clients who do distance or online sessions. I have found this type of delivery system to be as effective and enjoyable for children and easy for parents.
I have done additional training in the Feuerstein Instrumental Enrichment programme. By using a technique called mediated learning this programme develops the cognitive skills that children need for learning in a systematic manner.
